Dell Latitude c400 not connecting to anything!
OMG, so I just bought a laptop from a friend a little while ago, and I KNOW the thing is internet capable because he has a lot of internet related stuff left on it(Limewire, AIM). Here's the problem:
(My laptop is a Latitude C400 in case your wondering)
I bought an ATIVA Wireless G Notebook card from Office Depot, (it was 10 bucks so maybe that's the first problem here), but it won't connect.
(The modem/router is Actiontec GT704WG from Verizon)
So I figure, maybe I need to buy something else. Well, I went out and bought a NETGEAR RangeMax Wireless-N USB 2.0 Adapter. It works fine, but it still won't connect. I'm sitting right next to the stupid router thing, and it won't connect. It even has full signal strength, but it won't connect.
I called the NETGEAR tech support, and he said it must be the router because the USB adapter seems to be working fine, so what am I supposed to do?
The light on the router/modem for wireless is on and working, so why won't it connect?
Also, there's an alarm system in the house, I read somewhere that might mess up the wireless signal. But how would I know for sure?
Do I have to buy anything else for this laptop, because I've spent enough money already.

Security systems can interfere, but i dont think that is your problem. If you can see the signal and its not connecting, your access has possible dropped out. Some BB sites use 10.0.0.138 as an IP address so in the browser use http;//10.0.0.0.138 this should bring up a login tyepe admin admin user and PW then go to settings and disconnect. Then select reconnect type in your username and password and exit. wait 5 mins and you should be able to connect. If the IP does not work call your ISP and get the correct sequence.
