Difficulty breaking down signal from dish to onkyo receiver to tv
Randomly our television will go in and out while both using our dish and playstation3. If we turn the receiver off and then back on, it takes sometimes hours for the signal to show up on the tv. We have tried hooking up to another tv and the same problem existed so we ruled out the problem being the tv. We are also fairly positive that the problem is not the HDMI cable. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We have only had this receiver for about 1.5 years.

I would definitely contact Onkyo for warranty service. I'm sorry to hear this. Onkyo is one of the best selling avr systems out there. I'm not familiar with their customer service. I've never had to contact them. Good luck, I hope it all works out.
Lots of players in this scenario> Only the receiver is named and you're "fairly positive that the problem is not the HDMI cable" - WHY? It's a single point of failure, too.
You don't actually say what happens if you bypass the receiver with the video sources, which is NOT a bad idea overall anyway. Multiple hops for any signal usually results in degradation at some point.
You haven't said how the TV is connected to the receiver. I hope it's just as a monitor. Other than for video-related audio, I avoid any video-related connections to my receiver. All video goes straight to the TV/monitor. No degradation.
When you say the TV goes in and out, do you mean the video is lost from the source THROUGH the receiver TO the TV? If so, does the receiver's On Screen Display still work to the TV?
Or does the TV just die? We have to be sure if we're talking about the TV itself or the TV-programming from wherever it's coming.
Can you try another digital audio path from either or both sources to isolate or eliminate HDMI as the central common factor?
