Disconnecting unexpectedly! My external buffalo is disconnecting itself unexpectedly during use. At first, it was happening with the firewire 400. I thought there was a problem with the firewire cable or the firewire port on the hard-drive, so I switched to USB, which worked fine for a while. But now even with USB, after an hour or so of work, the Buffalo will disconnect itself for no apparent reason. Sometimes, it is even less than an hour. It is very frustrating as I use it to edit with and sometimes, it cuts off with no warning, causing me to lose my work. Inactivity seems to affect it more than when it is fully in use but I have no energy-saving preferences turned on that could lead to the drive going to sleep. Could it be the power cord or is it problem with the drive itself?

Hello! My recommendation would be to check if the Drive is over heating. Excessive heat could cause the disconnection either for drive protection or because solder points lose strenght. Turn it on, use it a while, right when it disconnects check if its hot. Or try to dissipate better the heat and see if it lasts longer
