DJ lights overvoltage problem
I have a customer with 4 x I Solutions ishow dj light units that use the popular A1/259 24v 250w lamp. I supply them Phillips 500 hour lamps which they get through 1 a week, despite only using the lights for 6 hours a night!! It sounds like an overvoltage at the lamp (25v or more)and they just burn out to quickly. I haven't had a chance to remove a unit just yet to confirm this. Is there a way of putting a metal clad high power resistor in line with the positive feed to the lamp to reduce the voltage, to increase the life of the lamp? It may be slightly dimmer, but they will get used to it!!

You are correct. reducing the voltage by 10% will double the life of a lamp. I do not know the system but if it is powering with AC put a variac in the line and reduce that way, a lot less heat is generated. You can get them form MPJA.COM at a reasonable price. If it is DC the regulator system is bad.
Good Luck,
