Do I need a cable box to make it work on my tv?

When I program the tv. I can only turn it on and nothing else. Do i need to get a cable box to make the cable run on my tv?

Only if you have satellite otherwise if you have cable service you should be able to get basic channels by plugging cable direct into tv if that outlet is active.
