Has it been setting for a long time? I don't like that knocking sound, you may have internal engine damage? You might be able to use fitting in place of oil pressure switch, then pump oil into the system. That is just a thought, I accept no liability. Others may have better ideas?
I am supposing you have overhauled the engine. If so, yes, it is quite common to prime the oil pump. How a lot of people do it is to fill it with STP, which will last long enough upon starting the engine to prevent bearing failure from lack of start-up oil. Mechanics also coat all bearing surfaces of all bearings with STP, for the same reason. If it has already given you a knocking sound when you cranked it, you may have already damaged the bearings. God bless your efforts.
