This is a pretty common issue with these heaters. The switch can easily be replaced by opening the unit and swapping out the switch assembly. One switch I have found that works well and is reatively inexpensive (under $4) is the one from Radio Shack (P# 275-0020) which is a 16A 125VAC illuminated round rocker switch. Unlike the OEM one that drops in, the RS one is a panel type which you will have to screw into place. The whole procedure shouldn't take you more than 15min.
This worked like a charm, John, and as you say, it took me about 15 minutes to complete the repair. I did have to buy a Phillips screwdriver, though, to get the two upper screws out. Also, I wanted to mention to NOT goof around with the black tab that holds the panel in place. I thought I had to push that out to get the case apart, but that's not the way it works. Just take the four screws out and the case comes apart easily. This worked like a charm, John, and as you say, it took me about 15 minutes to complete the repair. Found the switch is defective , with a tester. Unfortunately cannot find the part to replace. Vornado does not sell the parts, they do not authorize third parties repair
