As a mechanic I suggest having one in. Of course it will run without one but you will have a slow time warming the engine up when engine is cold. Coolant in some cases will flow to fast and you can actually run hot. It effects your heat inside the vehicle. Think of it this way; do you know of any car manufacturer that makes a car without a thermostat ? No right ? there must be a reason that every car maker foriegn or domestic has one in there vehicles.....Just my opinion but have been working on cars for over 25 years so know just a little bit. Will never know it all though. Hope this helps...
