If the cv joint has split or broken there are two options available to you. One is to remove the axle and fit a genuine boot back on. It will cost the price of the boot plus around 2 hours labour. The other option is to get an aftermarket boot that is split and put it around the cv joint and clip and glue it back along the split. They are specially made and do a good job and costs the price of the boot and some of your time. There is no need to remove the axle to do it.
