The only listing I have for Smeg states for 'E14' 'NTC dryer in short circuit or interrupted'. 'NTC' stands for 'Negative Temperature Co-efficient' or water temperature thermostat to you and me!
One way of hopefully getting around the problem is first to ensure the washer is empty then pour the contents of a boiling kettle into it. That can sometimes kick the device into correct action. It's worth a try anyway before having to call in the repair man- it does say 'dryer' ;-0(
