I had same problem. Holding down the eject button did nothing. Took the metal cover off, popped the front off (many snaps), unsrewed the 4 screws holding the dvd transport, pulled out the two ribbon cables from the mother board (note the side with the traces on should match the contacts on the connector). I then took a small screwdriver and manually turned the pulley under the front until the dvd tray moved all the way out, then reversed the action to return it all the way back in.
I then put it back together, carefully plugging in the ribbon cables (they are very fragile, no connectors), and screwing the transport back in. Plugged in the power cable and voila! the eject button now opens the player. Don't know if it was a bad connection on the ribbon cable or some mechanical binding, but it now works.
Most manual overrides involved pressing and holding either the eject button or the power button on the machine itself (not the remote). Try those first.
If that doesn't work reply with the following info: Will your system turn on/off? Are you able to play the disk that's in the drawer?
