1) use a paperclip to "force" it open by opening the clip, then inserting one end into the little hole and pressing... 2) while it's coming out, see if the faceplate binds on anything 3) if it's not binding, it's probably the drive motor. Pick up a replacement internal DVD-RW and swap it out...it's very easy!
Quick instructions on how to swap out a CDROM/DVD drive: 1) Turn off the machine 2) Take off the cover 3) Disconnect the power connector and the data ribbon cable from the CDROM drive 4) Undo the screws (or tabs) holding the CDROM in place 5) Slide the drive out the front 6) Slide the replacement unit back into place, after confirming the jumper placement for standalone/slave/etc. 7) Put the screws back in (or the tabs click in place) 8) Plug in the cables, being sure to line it up correctly 9) Put the cover back on and get it going!
