The only cause for this change is either one RAM chip has failed or the slot has failed. Should be easy to find the bad item since RAM comes in 2 and 4GB sizes. The 4GB chip/slot is the problem. Put any GB chip into the slot and see if the total increases. If yes, the 4GB chip is bad. If not, the slot is bad.
