Ecs 6100sm-m mobo connections
Hi,
Problem is I just bought this mobo and realised it has four SATA connectors but only one IDE connector which means as i have a dvd rom and 2x ide drives, I cant connect all...only teh dvd or the hdd's.
Any solutions other that getting a) a new mobo or b) a new sata hdd?
thanks
mark

You have a few options
1) buy a sata harddrive (faster then ide), use the ide for the second harddrive (backup) and cd/dvd rom
2) buy a sata cd/dvd rom use the ide on both harddrives (1 set to slave)
3) depends on your budget, buy a sata drive + sata cd/dvd rom so your main drive is on sata (faster than ide) then you only have your second drive as your backup drive on ide.
i had the same problem when i rebuilt mine, i went for the seperate harddrive and cd/dvd rom and my 320 gb ide as my backup drive
sorry to jump on this post aswell, see what others think
sorry forgot to add, theres no way around it really. most of the new motherboards only come with 1 ide connection now.
connecting the harddrive and your cd/dvd rom on the same ide will work fine, just set the harddrive to master and the cd/dvd rom to slave. can be done from the little pin on the back of the drives (sorry if you already know), it should reach if not you can buy longer ide cables for next to nothing. its a pain when you start upgrading, always need bits you dont think of :)
let me know how you get on
