When Yahoo was facing bankruptcy they fired their CEO and replaced him with very smart 39 year old named Marissa Myers from Google. She did a lot of really good things and Yahoo was definitely showing a sizable profit. Unfortunately she felt that Yahoo Mail Classic was not as good as Google's Gmail and she decided to remake Yahoo Mail to be like Gmail. There have been many problems since then. People's accounts or lists of contacts have disappeared, attachments first couldn't be made and now that they can be made they can't be opened. Hundreds of Thousand of complaints were made in the first week. Right now it's not you or the person sending you the attachments - it's the constantly patching going on that has made it impossible to open them. I can't. Fortunately I also have a Gmail account and am using that until the dust clears. It's a real shame - Yahoo Mail Classic was much nicer than Gmail.
I agree totally with Gerry Rains. I started with gmail, but found it user unfriendly so went to Yahoo. Looks like I made a mistake!I agree totally with Gerry Rains. I started with gmail, but found it user unfriendly so went to Yahoo. Looks like I made a mistake!
I have called Yahoo on several occasions. Since everything that Ms. Myers did at first was immensely successful she is in the catbird seat. I really think that they're all terrified of her and while they know darn good and well that this new and highly patched version of Yahoo Mail is a joke they didn't come out and say it but their tones of voice were quite sufficient. Now she wants us all to have SSL level security. It would be so much easier to use two-step notification and at least as effective. She probably has spies everywhere. There have now been over four million complaints formally lodged and she doesn't give a darn. She thinks that she knows what she wants although I doubt that she knows an "if" statement from a "do until" statement. She's a young highly successful manager and she can't understand the problems that she is creating for users and for her developers. There is NO WAY that she's going to go back to Yahoo Mail Classic - to do so what would be a huge loss of face and she's "Little Miss Perfect". You can no longer order your inbox alphabetically so as to simplify putting inbox mail into your folders, but Gmail never gave you that capability either so why should she care about that. I have given all of my Yahoo Mail information to Gmail in case of emergency. Verizon isn't any better. Probably using Mozilla Firefox and Chrome and then using Thunderbird as an email-client is the best bet, but Thunderbird has a steep learning curve. It's a client and that's not the same thing as a normal system. If I want to get into any of several groups to which I belong I can get in through Facebook, Yahoo Mail, Gmail, or Internet Explorer. Thus you cannot use Thunderbird as a stand-alone but you can integrate it through Gmail, Yahoo, or IE. Of course you get into Facebook with one of your mail systems so that's not much of an option. She reminds me of the poem "Casey at the bat". It ends with,"There is no joy in Mudville - mighty Casey has struck out." That's not much of a solution but it's a very accurate appraisal of the situation that I have been investigating very thoroughly.I have called Yahoo on several occasions.
