[email protected] My american standard GPH ( from the 60's) won't start on its own. My husband clicks the relay and it turns on, heats up the house, then shuts down. Any idea what the problem might be? We changed the fuse holder and switch and also put contact cleaner on it, please help

Still could be a bad contactor. Especially if the coil is getting 24volts which sounds like it is if it stays pulled in. When he pushes it in it helps it. Also sounds like you have a heat pump and heat strips are not hooked up or working bc even on heat pumps heat strips are still used for defrost and helping unit catch up on cold days. Thermostat may be lrogrammed or wired wrong for heat strips but id check voltage on contacot coil and replace it. There relatively inexpensive.
