Wanted to Open Question Hyundai accent 2008 starting issue. I wanted to post this to help others Mentally & financially as this is one of those things I could have spent hundreds on. Instead my dealer said you can throw parts at it & hope, or wait to an error code revealed itself. In the previous month I had replaced all belts, plugs & battery as I'm at 130000k & just paid it off. Ironically a week after my last car payment .this starting issue began, Get in ,drive to a store ...get back in to go home no start. Timing belt was just replaced...not timing1 Plugs just replaced...not plugs. Plenty of crank ,,new battery. Starter turns 2 or 3 cylinders fire & quits. What the F---!Take to the dealer...mechanic says it can be 1 of 4 things but of course starts there for him every time. Service desk guy says to wait for error code to show up. Well 2 frustrated months later same problem & no code. However he also had asked if Id seen an error code of a key inside a car stay lit on my dash, if so it meant a fault in the key reader, After being stuck twice in one day last Friday I decided to pull my plugs and check for loose or whatever. Long story short after putting all back together,,,same problem!!! Yet it finally came to me ...YES there really is an answer. As I turned the key I started focusing on the dash and what lights came on .1st turn Acc,,,2nd turn about 5 things light up including a pic of a key inside a car,,3rd turn of the key cranks the starter & turns over the engine. Well ,,,it finally occurred to me on turn 2 that one of the lighted pics was missing...you guessed it,,,little key in car. So I kept turning from key from 1 to 2 for lights on dash until it finally lit up an when it did I turned the key to start & it did. Shut it off & tried again but noticed pic missing and car didn't start, I had been waiting all these months for this **** pic to show up as an error code on my dash but the problem was ...sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't so because it hadn't faulted yet no permanent error code could be read. However now I know I need a new key reader because so long as that pic appears on the dash in 2nd key turn ,my car has no issue, when pics not there it isn't starting. Hope this helps others diagnose this simple yet frustrating problem, life's simpler when you know what to look for.
