Engine runs rough ... misfires
So i have a sportage the we just bought. it idled a little rough but when you started moving it was fine. we just changed the plugs wires and coils. when we put it back together it got much worse. i noticed oik on the plugs so we took it apart and changed the valve cover gasket which was clearly broken. the car is still running rough and im getting a misfire on cylinder #3. this cylinder has the new coil on it. not sure where to go from here any suggestions. we didnt gapo the plugs but wouldnt all cylinders misfire if this was the problem , please help !

You will have to go back and check the gap,not all the spark plugs are always gapped the same, but check number three.I assume you changed the boots with the coils?Clean the oil out with some spray cleaner and dry paper towels,if there is any,and check the plug in on the coils, make sure they are dry of oil.You may have missed the plug, when you stuck the wire down in the hole to the spark plug.and there are small springs in the boot to conduct the voltage from the boot of the wire from the coil, check to see if it is still in there.Number one,and number 4 are joined, and number 2,and number 3 are connected,so look at that also.If I can help anymore please let me know,I have a sportage also, change the fuel filter also,it can cause low fuel spray to the injector, believe it or not.
The coolant will have nothing to do with it.
Check all the vacuums, and the e g r valve also, there maybe a vacuum left off.
To look for possible voltage crossfiring on plug wires or voltage leaks in wires/coils use a spray bottle with water to soak down the plug wires and coils a bit then run the vehicle in a dark environment rev the motor up a bit and at the same time as motor is at higher rpms look for bue sparks near any ignition components, if no sparks are visible remove all spark plugs regap and check for midfires again if misfire persists replace the number three spark plug occassionally a defective spark plug can occur even new. The other possibility is the valve lash or clearance adjustment for valves must be check and reset, I once owned a Honda CRV that was showing a misfire and it turned out to be a out of adjustment intake valve the clearance was too close not allowing the valve to close all the way each time it opened.
Hope this helps.
