Error light flashing - wash & drying lights flashing
I have a Hotpoint FDW20. When it was 11 months old I got an error message. Two visits from Comet engineers repaired it - said it was to do with heating element. 6 weeks later two new lights started to flash but machine was out of warranty. I was told that if it wasn't heating element again I would have to pay full cost of repair. Engineer came out but the machine had stopped displaying lights and he couldn't find a problem. Now the machine is flashing wash & drying lights - the manual says I should call an engineer, but I know what they are going to say. I have a machine which is 16 months old and no warranty. Any clues? I feel fairly conned.

My machine would not always set properly and various lights went on and off without reason or stayed flickering. I phoned Hotpoint as like you my warranty was finished. They told me to switch off the machine and unplug at the mains. Leave for 10 minutes then plug back in and switch on. It re-booted the control panel and last night I was able to set it properly. If it doesnt work for you I suggest you phone Hotpoint customer service (number of website) and ask if there is anything else you can do to solve the problem yourself before you pay for another service call. Failing that buy a new one!!
