When the filter pressure rise 8-10 PSI over the clean starting pressure it is time to backwash. Turn the pump off and rotate the multiport valve to backwash. Turn on the pump and the dirty water will flow out the waste line. Once the water runs clear in the valve’s sight glass, turn off the pump. Rotate the valve to rinse. Turn on the pump for 20-30 seconds. This will clean out the plumbing lines and reset the sand bed. Turn off the pump, rotate the valve to filter position and begin to filter. Take a reading of this new clean starting pressure, so you have a reference point for the next backwash cycle. Water may need to be added to the pool to replace the backwashed water.
Ensure supply and return valves are open.

If this was the case? Then why would "recirculate" move the water and "closed" move the water and when I switch it to "filter" it doesn't? Also I switch it to "waste" or "backwash" and the water flies out of waste line. Wasn't trying to make your face red just didn't know exactly how detailed I needed to be. Pump moves water, this is why I think it is the pool's sand filter head sp711 hayward. Ideas?

Please offer more details of your problem and your observations. Also, please offer the model number of your filter system.
The "Filter" cycle is the most important cycle as this is the normal cycle that allows your unit to filter the water for you. :-)
I look forward to hearing back from you. :-)
Hayward vari flow sp711 all positions on sand filter head work except filter? the jets feel like they are pulling in but now water movemment.

I wish you could ask a question ... I am very good at this but I dont see a question to answer.

Have you removed the handle from your multi-port valve to check the gasket?
