The F28 error often means a communication error between the components and the electronic control board. Sometimes, the solution is as simple as unplugging the washer (or turning it off at the circuit breaker) for a few minutes.
If the problem recurs, you need to check the wiring, the control board, and the motor (including the motor control unit). Check that all of the connections are tight and the ground wires aren't loose. On some models, if the front bottom panel is loose or off, the grounding safety switch will not work. The back bottom panel may have a similar switch that will stop the washer if the screws holding it to the washer aren't secured.
Next check the connections for corrosion, particularly for issues inside the housing. Take the motor control unit out of the case and check for damage (burned spots). Replace just the motor control unit or the electronic control board if there is obvious damage to one. Otherwise, you may need to replace both.
Please add a comment with the model number if you'd like me to search for a parts list and diagram.
The parts diagrams are available here:https://www.searspartsdirect.com/model/3... . The motor electronic control board is part 20 on the Top and cabinet parts diagram. The main control board is part 14 on the Control Panel diagram. Unfortunately this isn't available any more from the vendors I know. I hope this helps.
