Faulty remote control
I have just been watching my freeview when smoke started coming out of the remote and when i have taken the batteries out to have a look the plastic has melted to one of the spiral connectors.who do i contact or what should i do

Maybe the batteries were inserted wrong way ?
Sorry to tell you this but once you have taken the smoke out of the electronic device it is hard to put it back in.
Cheapest way is to purchase a universal remote control in this case.
You could open the remote and try to repair it but as it smoked it probably needs some parts.
