Fellows DM8C shredder that runs continuously
I have a Fellows DM8C that runs continuously, the only way to stop is to turn off the switch. Normally it starts when you put in the paper and then shuts off after about 10-15 seconds, if paper is not added. I have cleaned the sensor, but still runs continuously.
All other functions work; shreds OK, reverse works OK, stops/will not start when bin is not in place. What part needs to be replaced?

The paper switch is faulty or dirty.
It's a little contact limit switch that senses paper in the slot.
The spring return is weak (broken, or a shred of paper or dust has become lodged in the switch.
Replace this switch (if you can find one) , or you could try unscrewing the casing (always unplug from mains first!), and vacuuming out all the dust which will have gathered there. Perhaps a fragment of paper has jammed the plastic mechanism so that it is not returning the switch to off.
Compressed air works well too!!

Gears are covered for 5 years - All other parts are Manufacturer waranteed for 1 year.
Contact Fellowes Customer Service 800-945-4545 if your shredder is under warranty.
Office level products do not have replacement parts available. This is a photo sensor - and without knowing the specs or exact part # - it will be impossible for you to find a replacement.
It would probably be unethical to purchase a new one and put the broken one back in the box and return it - so it looks like you are in the market for a new shredder ;)

Problem: Shredder runs continuously when switch is in AUTO (l) position
Solution: Move the power switch to the OFF (O) position and unplug the shredder. Use a Q-Tip/cotton swab (from the top of the unit) to clear the paper blockage at the auto-start sensor (center) location. Move the power switch to AUTO (l) position and depress the manual forward button for five seconds to clear paper blockage.

Problem: What if My Shredder is jammed
Solution: Ensure the wastebasket is empty then move power switch to the REVERSE position. This will reverse the jammed paper out of the shredder. If shredder jams again, alternate control switch slowly between REVERSE and AUTO (l) positions to attempt to move jammed paper completely through the shredder. If the shredder jams in reverse mode, move the switch to AUTO (l), depress the manual forward button located on the center of the shredder head and allow to run for five seconds. If jam does not clear, move switch to REVERSE again and allow to run for five seconds. Repeat this process until jam is cleared. If necessary, turn off shredder and use care to grasp the paper and carefully pull out to clear jam. Once cleared, move switch to AUTO (l) to continue shredding. The jamming may be happening because the cutting cylinder needs to be oiled. See oiling instructions below.
MANY A TIME THE PROBLEM IS MAIN BOARD OF THE SHEDDER UNIT GONE FAULTY ,IF THAT IS THE CASE THEN IT NEEDS REPARING FROM PROFESSIONAL TECHNICIAN.
