Find and Connect a UPS compatible
This Buffalo NAS seems to be compatible only with UPS APC SU500J which is currently impossible to obtain outside Japan. Therefore Sub-D 9pin connector should use the communication protocol "smart comments" but I didn't find any information about this protocol !?
The user manual also describe Sub-D9 pin assignment and PIN 2 is describe as "APC_Line_Fail", PIN 3 as "APC_UPS_SHUTDOWN", PIN 5 as GND and PIN 7 as +12V. I have connected an other UPS model (whithout communication) to protect power supply of NAS. But I'd like to shutdown NAS anyway when UPS battery is empty. Can you help me to find solution to communicate with NAS ? Do you think I need to send specific ASCII code to NAS or is it only change of Electric level on PIN's which trigger the shutdown process ?
