Finepix won't acknowledge camera when it should...DCIM folder does not appear on tree. this happened twice, then the 3rd time i tried to download pix, the AC adaptor went pfft and gave out a cloud of smoke. do i just need a new adaptor or is it something more sinister?

Well, first of all, get a new AC adaptor. Do your pics appear on the camera? If so, just get a separate card reader to download your pics to a folder you create on your desktop. This one is $13 at Walmart.
