Fix Only Worked i week
My 18 mos. old 37" flat screen from Polaroid would not turn on other than a blue light. I read of a fix on this site by stiv0, tried it and it worked! But tonight (1 wk later0 it totally shut off. There is no red or blue light and my cable box is still on, but not the TV..Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Maybe there is something else we can check out and replace? I am so disgusted I don't know what else to do. Thanks in advance, Carol in TN

You may need a new power supply, I would check the power supply fuse where the ac plugs into the tv, you have to pry it out from behind the tv, stiv0s' fix would return 24v to the lcd backlight hence you would have sound but no picture. if the red light doesnt come on at all that would mean the 5v required for standby isnt getting to the mainboard. there is actually a fuse soldered onto the power supply right where the AC cord plugs in. if you had a meter you could check that to see if the fuse is is burnt out.

If I may ask what was the fix suggested to you? What may have happened, is something that often happens. Remember when something malfunctions, it usually does so for a reason, until that reason is exposed any repairs will be temporary. I usually tell people to have their sets checked out be a qualified TV technician which to me is the best advice. However if the person wants to do it themselves I usually offer troubleshooting help, not "shotgunning" help. Shotgunning is what caused you to seek a repair without the benefit of troubleshooting, so if you want me to help you do this yourself, I do require that you have some understanding of electronics, because I am going to have you take measurements and readings if you have the equipment to do so.
