Fuel pump?? i have a 1998 ford ranger xlt, 3.0 ltr 2wdr and i went to start it yesterday, and it would only stay on for about 10 seconds. the engine would turn over, and it would start, but then would immediately cut off. it was making noises like it was out of gas. it was possible that it was, so i put approx. a gallon in the tank, and tied again and got the same results. everyone i have spoken to says they think it is the fuel pump, but i need to be sure before going and getting the pump. any ideas???

If you are that low in fuel might wanna put a little more in it if you parked at an angle or up/down hill it might not be picking up. Need to check the fuel pressure and go from there.
If fuel pressure is good then it is not the pump. probably gonna be an ignition problem need to see if your getting good sparkIf fuel pressure is good then it is not the pump. probably gonna be an ignition problem need to see if your getting good spark

Try replacing the Air Flow Senser, it's the switch looking thing, to the right of the air filter box; I think it runs about $6-$10s. Good luck.
