Fuel supply on 1976 CJ-7
I have a 360 in my CJ. I bought it with the 360 in it but it had issues. I sent the engine out and had it mostly rebuilt. I finished assembling the front of the engine and the intake and exhaust manifolds. At the time, I wondered why the original fuel line was in such a zig-zag pattern. I put more of a direct ''up from the fuel pump, right turn, straight over and into the fuel filter and direct into the carb.'' Now, when I go ANYWHERE, the fuel must drain back from the carb down the line. And if I park on an incline, the fuel must drain back farther. I changed the fuel pump, thinking that it may help but it did nothing. When I start it after the fuel drains back, I get a substantial amount of smoke from the tail pipe. (The builder assured me that the valve stem seals were top-notch, high quality and oil was NOT getting by them) First things first. I need to fix the fuel line back to original. I need to find one existing so I can copy it. I'm still concerned about the oil burning issue - I'm still now sure why it's doing that. Any help with the fuel line or oil burning issue?

Large amounts of unburnt fuel is most likely what your seeing in the exhaust at first start up.Have you had the carburator rebuilt?Pull your plugs before you start it and look and smell for unburnt fuel. This may be solved by leaning the carb out or replacing or adjusting the float/needle valve, and check all the fuel line connections. As far as the fuel supply line shape this is not a problem,a good fuel pump and supply lines should not lose it's prime and not allow the fuel to drain back regardless of shape or routing.
