Fuzzy screen, not a flat screen
At work we use a computer that has a screen that's like, ten years old. It's not flatscreen. When I was a kid my dad used to have to adjust the focus on our screens to make the words and pictures clear again because it would slip out of focus from time to time. This has happened at my job and it's getting impossible to read the screen. The company won't buy a new computer, isn't there a simple way to adjust the focus of the screen? I grew up with three computer programmers in my house, so I'm pretty sure there is, I just don't know where it is in the windows program. I think it's XP, but I'm not sure because we only use one program on the thing.

GOOD CALL FREE TECH,NOT ONLY does this monitor carry 20k + volts,you can unplug it for upto 2 yrs & it can still stop your heart,alandries,if you know someone that is familiur with this let f.t.talk them through it.otherwise i suggest getting another monitor.let us know.thanx for using fix-ya!!!!!!!!!!
If you have the common CRT focus problem, Windows can't help; that is an internal adjustment in the monitor proper.
Opening the case probably doesn't take more than two minutes (~ 4-6 screws) but the focus adjustment in located on the flyback transformer and can only be done with the monitor powered up and with video displayed on the screen. This is somewhat dangerous and should only be done by someone familiar with the guts of these since there is about 25,000 volts applied to the CRT and many lower voltages with higher current that can kill exposed on the circuit board. Any tech with minimal skills could probably adjust this in a few seconds if it is just a matter of 'drift' of the control setting but aged monitors can also lose definition that is no longer correctable through adjustment. Certain internal parts of the CRT can become tired and that condition is only correctable via replacement of the CRT itself.
If you have someone with some familiarity with these but isn't sure what to do, please reply and I will give them guidance but I don't recommend anyone with zero training blindly risking death.
TFT Monitor fuzzy display problems are almost always caused by one (or more) or the following issues:
- Wrong display resolution. As mentioned elsewhere, TFT Monitors must be configured to use their Native Resolution in the PCs display settings. Failing to do this will always cause the display to be fuzzy or blurred - or to have jagged edges on diagonal lines and a 'lumpy' looking display.
- Poor adjustment. If the display resolution is correct, then the monitor has to be correctly adjusted to get the best picture quality. This is usually only an issue with analogue monitors. If the digital (DVI) input is used, then further adjustment of the monitor should not be required. Initially, the monitors "Auto-Adjustment" can be used to try and improve the display quality. This is best used with a program producing a test pattern of vertical lines, with a single pixel white border showing the exact edge of the screen. Given this, most monitors will auto-adjust perfectly well. If the display is still not perfect, a very slight manual adjustment will usually achieve the expected quality.
- Poor quality cables. Monitors are susceptible to signal degradation from either poor quality or excessively long signal cables. Also, joining or extending cables is likely to cause ghosting effects on the display, usually seen as light and dark vertical lines.
- Faulty graphics cards or other component. In most cases upgrading the driver ill resolve this issue. If none of the above suggestions work then get me the brand and model number of your graphicscard and we will update the driver.
