GA-8IHXP won't boot... VER 3.0
HI
THIS IS NOT A NEW SYSTEM, IT'S BEEN UP AND RUNNING FOR YEARS WITH NO PROBLEMS. THE PC WAS RUNNNG AND THE SCREEN JUST WENT BLACK (NO SIGNAL). NOW AS I TRY TO BOOT, THERE IS NOTHING AT ALL ON THE SCREEN WITH THE SCREEN INDICATING NO SIGNAL.
THE ACTIONS I HAVE TAKEN TO REMEDY THIS PROBLEM ARE AS FOLLOWS
1. CHANGED POWER SUPPLY & TESTED THE OLD ONE WHICH IS OK.
2. CLEARED THE BOARED OF ALL CABLES & CARDS EXCEPT GRAFICS CARD, KEPT ALL DRIVES POWERED UP
3. CHANGED GRAFICS CARD - TESED OLD CARD WHICH IS OK TOO.
4. CLEARD CMOS & REMOVED BATERY
SUMMERY
THE POWER SWITCH IS GOOD AS PC IS TURNED ON, THE M/B LIGHT COMES ON BUT IT HANGS IN LIMBO WITH BLACK SCREEN (NO SIGNAL ) PC IS TURNED OFF ONLY BY HOLDING DOWN PWR SWITCH OR CUTTING OFF POWER VIA POWER SUPPLY ON/OFF SWITCH.
IF ANYONE HAS ANY IDEAS, PLEASE SHARE THEM WITH ME.
THANKS GUYS
TONY

The next thing I would check is a close inspection of all the bad capacitors on the board. If you need an idea of what they look like check here.
The next thing I would do is fix the rating you assigned. You said in your comment the advice was sound, but you left out information in your post. You will see the CHANGE RATING link on this page, most likely just under my answer. If you review the ratings FAQ you will see my answer should have been rated helpful since it was sound advice but did not fix your problem.
I do suspect the motherboard is dead. Yes, the RIMMs will still work in the older version of the board.
Also keep in mind that sometimes the capacitors will blow out on the bottom. But it would be pretty unlikely that you would not notice any of them bubbled on the top if bad caps were the problem. Might be worth another look if the board is that important to you. I would just replace the whole thing.
