Life expediences is 2-4 years statistic are hard to nail down . This problem has been traced to a commutations error from the GPU-CPU and causes latching and finally lockup ( Freezing ) with no recovery aka crashing.
There is One Enemy it's the G.P.U.and it's self-destructive thermal issues. First if the P.C.board is fairly true and straight then a solid recovery is possible.
The G.P.U. must be properly re-flowed then re clamp to the heat sink with a stock X clamp or have a hardware up grade to more evenly compress the G.P.U. after all the connections have been established . A solid clamping system will provide for the greatest operational stability
1 X clamp mod will get your unit running for about 2-4 month on average with exceptions. After it fails again repeat attempts will prove less successful.
2 Re-flow with a x clamp reinstall will yield 3-12 months
3 Re-flow with better clamping system will yeaild 9+ months
