Jimsfootball - You must not have read the original poster's problem correctly. He said he could not calibrate his screen, which is a symptom of a defective touchscreen. The link I gave him already contained the information that you posted AND a solution if the procedure didn't work.

Garmin tech support gave me the following successful advise. Plug in your Garmin into your computer via USB cable. Open My Documents or Windows Explorer and click on the drive for your Garmin (the unit must be on). Click on the Garmin subdirectory and delete the file called, GUPDATE. Disconnect the unit from the computer and reboot the unit. Then press and hold the ON button until the calibration screen appears. There you go. Normally, the press and hold technique works to get the calibration screen, but the GUPDATE file messes this up.
