I had this problem and I contacted Garmin. It is due to the WAAS. You can do one of two things: 1) Purchase thier over priced cables so you can attach the unit to your PC and downlowd the updates, or 2) Turn it on, hit menu, disable WAAS. Now it works.
I had the same problem so I replaced my 152 with a spare unit. It did the same thing. This led to believe it was the cable. I removed a few kinks and a bend at the unit; and it seems to be fine. Seems too simple and the bends were not that severe, but it is working (for now).

Try updating the software. The new WAAS signal causes some Garmin units to "go stupid" if the unit has old software.
