Yes it is important to stack them right but just trying to figure it out by the depressions is not right you need a diagram to show you or just call service agent its better to do right or it will coast you later when it causes your heater to break down i've seen various ways that people try and do logs even following the book my best suggestion is call service agent they should know how to do it correctly
Mine has depressions that kind of give you an indication where they go. I'ts important you get them right so the fire is deflected to the correct places and not on your fuel source.
