Gateway 400SD4 I was using this notebook early this morning when it just quit. Power or Charge LED do not light. The battery is only 3 months old. I have 3 broken keys on this system and am awaiting a new keyboard, as early as today. I have completely disassembled this unit down to the motherboard. I am thinking it may be a motherboard problem but if there is any other possibilities or tests I can do I would like to know about it. I have never had a problem with this unit. The power jack is not damaged in any way, and the power supply is up to par.the inverter board was replaced about 6 months ago and it has been working well for a system of it's age. I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks, Vern Wallenta [email protected]
I'm sure you looked at the merely obvious but have you felt the tops of the capacitors to tell if they are swelled up. also smell the board.... can you smell anything burnt ?
It could sldo be a loose connection on the board...test every aspect of it that you can before going to the expense of buying a new board.thats the firsy thing people tll you is pay for the most expensive part first
this does seem like a faulty motherboard, I assume you tested the charger. Its say its dead, unless your willing to spend hours troubleshooting it, I think the best solution is to replace the motherboard. I work in computers and we hardly ever go looking for the cause, we replace the motherboard.

also... when it quit did it just die completely ...or was there some outside cause.... power failure etc.

Look for some cold solder joints on the inverter board as well as the power connector..
