Gateway 7422 laptop xp: shuts down randomly no lights or monitor. power switch does nothing. Removed power cord and battery. Later reinstall battery: works sometimes but soon shuts down again. Twice the monitor has frozen and fan kicked on, and the rest of the lights went out. Power button did nothing; had to remove battery and power cord to stop the fan and monitor

It seems to be that CPU is overheating. I request you to check CPU fan speed. If needed replace the CPU FAN. it will fix the problem.
