Getting belts for TEAC W-890R. I'm currently sitting here a home with a DEAD TEAC A-350 Cassette Deck -- DEAD because I was told you can get belts for it (I have since found out that is is NOT true and am about to order some). In the meantime I ordered the NEW TEAC W-890R Cassette Deck. I don't want to go through the same problem that I've had with the A-350 and would like to buy some belts for it. I called TEAC and they told me then don't even have a Part# for the belts, and if a belt breaks I'd have to replace the entire cassette unit with the broken belt -- REALLY!!! For a broken belt. I asked how much it would cost to replace the cassette unit, and was told that since this is a NEW product they don't have a price for it yet. Of course TEAC did NOT include any sort of service manual, or schematic, or even a parts list. they did supply the ubiquitous "Owner's Manual" in English, French and Spanish. The "Troubleshooting Page" is only half a page wide, and the solutions most fall under the Dah!! category. Replacing a worn rubber belt should not require that I replace the entire cassette unit, all I need to know is what belts I need to buy for this unit, and HOW do you change them. Thanks
That is the state of conditions at Teac and they don't care about tape customer anymore. If you need belts for any unit it is simple to find the belt kit at Marrs Communications. They do not have he cheapest prices bu the you don't know what size you need and Fred took time to find his out. If you want to do it the other way you download a copy of the PRB cross reference manual and look up the belt type that goes into your deck. The you go to Ken's Electronics and order the belts online. This does not come with instruction of how to put them in. In my many years as a Technician working on all kinds of tape decks I have never seen an instruction to put belts in a machine- it is assumed that if you can not figure this out that you probably do not belong in the machine. In cases where belts are not in place sometimes the parts layout diagram can help you determine how they go in. I am an ex Teac Lead Technician from Chicago.
