The problem you are having is that you have two generations of electronics and are trying to make them work together. The RCA inputs/outputs to the home theater are ANALOG values, while the HDMI connections are DIGITAL. The two are not compatible. There are adapters that will do the job, but they vary in cost and quality of performance. A simple cable gender-swap won;t work, although there are shady sellers out there who will gladly sell such trash to you. Since you upgraded to digital TV, it may well be time to upgrade to digital audio as well.......
