Google email does not save my draft often enough. Then, all of a sudden it deletes several sentences I've been working on. For this, I hate the program! What else can I do?

Google Gmail is not an actual App or Program itself.
It is an on-line service provided by Google. Free
Therefore you would be using the facility through your Browser Program. Eg Safari, Internet Explorer, Chrome .......
The preferences & settings are associated with your account name and password..... on line.
