Got a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe that sounds ragged on the clean channel. This amp has been used a lot but all the tubes test fine, The solder points from the tube sockets look good and none of the caps are loose or swollen. The speaker seems fine in that when I plug a new speaker into the amp I get the same ragged sound so it must be something in the amp probably the preamp section I suspect. One more thing, when I plug a speaker into the external speaker jack there is almost no signal what so ever, and ragged at that. I'm open for suggestions. -JP

The capacitors look fine. I'm having a tech friend check them. After pulling the circuit boards I did notice a few solders on some heat dissipating resistors that looked less than stellar so I touched those up. That may have helped a little put the amp still does not "sing" as strong as my friends deluxe and my tubes test stronger than his. Mine One thing I learned when comparing my HRD to my friends HRD the external speaker jack reacts the same way on both (ie. almost no signal when using the external speaker jack alone) so those are not interchangeable. I'll post again when I hear back from my tech friend. If only I'd been born rich instead of so beautiful -JP

Pull the circuit boards and look for burnt capacitors
