Got a problem with front brakes on a citroen c3 2010 1.4 hdi. When we bought it the garage we bought it from had new discs and pads fitted as the said the brakes were noisy. But there was still a rubbing noise, almost grinding but juddering on and off as you touch the brakes. Since then I changed the brake pads again, still the same so thought it could be a warped disc so changed the discs again but no, exactly the same. I'd noticed that one of the calipers was starting to split on the seal so thought that could be the cause, so today I replaced both front calipers for brand new ones. Its still exactly the same. The car brakes as it should and when I put the handbrake on it while driving it doesn't make a sound. Could it possibly be the abs sensors not working properly (with it being an on off juddery sound) or something else entirely?
You can test the ABS sensors by disconnecting them temporarily. The Engine Malfunction check light will come on, but will go off a couple of days after reconnecting them.
Also check things like ball joints and tie rods for play.

This might fix the rattling noise.
Hand brake normally locks the rear wheels...did they replace front and back brakes?

Did you install the anti-rattle shims?
