Grinding sound When the Barrel is spining there is a grinding noise comeing from the base of the barrel. Sounds like maybe there is a coin lodged in there
Hi Garvis, I see two possible issues with this machine. Either the pump bearing is out or a coin and or the gear case is failing. Here is a good pic of the base; Number 4 is your pump which is accesible by a panel on the back of your washer. I would pop this cover off and run the washer while examining with a flashlight watching out for the gear case in the center. Feel the pump for vibration matching the noise and check the movement of the tub to help locate the noise.
The gear case requires two special tools to remove and replace. One is to release pressure on the brake spring at the bottom and the second is for the six springs positioning the tub and basket. I would get a warranty if possible and have it done, it will be cheaper this way. Some folks I have done these with have called Sears to get a one year warranty and the 250 or so you pay is around 70 to 80 percent of the cost. The gear case requires two special tools to remove and replace.
