Half the letters and numbers on my Smith Corona SL 575 look like this. II
For some reason half the words I type come up as two lines or look like upper case y's.ll or Y.Some letters come out fine every time but the rest come out like that.Does anyone know how to fix this?Thank you.My problem is exactly the same and has been repeated on a wordsmith 250

I would un plug and get a can of high pressure air and clean the key board with short burts of air! (Dirt and dust can be the main cause of your problem!
The spindle which gets lift every time and prints on the paper is s;lightly worn out or misallighned needs to be removed and resetted to make it proper.
Its the problem with the shift key stuck up or faulty which in between types the upper case alphabets.check to make it proper or replace the shift key button
The problem is most likely the daisywheel or the ink.
