Hard drive not recognized by vista or xp
I have 2 different computers..one with vista, one with xp. I bought a iomega desktop hard drive that has a seagate barracuda 7200 360 gigs inside it. My systems do not recognize it. It did recognize it at one time and i stored lots of photos and videos of my family on it. But i was having computer problems with my computer with vista...so had it reformat and reinstall my vista with factory settings and factory image backup. I suppose this could of affected my external hard drive but its doubtful as the computer with xp also does not recognize my external drive. I talked to an iomega tech and he thought it might be the power adapter so he is sending me one. But....i have another exteernal hard drive i use for other files....took the power adapter off that one and also switched usb cords........the swith did no good. I can hear a faint sound when i turn on the drive but after a little while, i cannot hear it anymore. I see a blue light that means its getting power. Is there such a thing as a reset button on these kind of hard drives? is there driver for vista or xp that would help or software? I cannot afford expensive data recovery methods. My husband is out of work. any suggestions?

Did you go to microsoft and try to see if you could update any drivers or software that might help you? it's free (microsoft.com) It couldn't hurt to try, have microsoft scan for updates, and it will come up with a list of what's needed or required. Also on your computer, under control panel, updates, make sure you turn off automatic install and allow you to pick what you would like to install. hope it helps, e-mail at [email protected]
