Have a 08 sportsman 500 HO. Can get gas to fuel pump but not to carb. Cleaned carb wtih carb cleaner, put back together and it fired for a second.( leftover carb cleaner I'm sure) Tried to start again, nothing. Have gas getting to the fuel pump but not getting to the carb. It turns over an over but doesn't want to fire. (If I crank it over for a while I should smell gas at carb but smell nothing) If I take gas line of at carb and crank if over should I get gas there or do I have to put pressure (air) in the gas tank in order to get gas there.Took fuel pump apart, there is a plastic membrane dividing the compartments that peels back on one side, does'nt look like it should.I think my fuel pump is bad but need some advice. Once again can get gas to the fuel pump but not to the carb. Thanks
I was just working on an 08. They have a vacuum operated fuel pump. All of the dealers I spoke with said that a fuel pump going bad is uncommon. I would check to see if the vacuum line is craked. When you take the inlet gas line from the carb and turn it over, you should get a pulsating flow of fuel. Again, check vacuum hose first then assume the fuel pump.

Also check the fuel filter.
