Diesel engines have really high torque, so transmissions have sensors to cut-off power from the engine should something go wrong with the transmission. When was the last time you gave your transmission a service? It could also just be a bad sensor, but I suggest that you plug in an OBDII reading diagnostics tool and see what is the error code it's sending out.
