Have a troy bilt trimmer mower 5hp that is at least 10+ years old. very hard to pull start, when it does start it chugs about 5 seconds, and dies. like the spark plug really never gets it fired up. also white smoke comes out the exhaust

You could have several problems with your engine . one it could be off timing it could have a sherd flywheel key or you could have a stuck ring or bad rings also a scored wall.. white smoke is oil if you have tipped it over you have to let the oil burn out of the cylinder if you believe its your plug take the plug out and clean it off with some gas and a soft wire brush and put it back in see what happens .
