Please could you supply a little more information so that I can answer your question correctly. Specifically, it is not clear whether you are referring to teletext (information pages) or subtitles/closed-captions (written programme dialogue) - or something else entirely. Please could you reply to me from within this page with the following information:
1. What "text" is missing? 2. Model number of the Philips TV 3. Is the TV connected directly to an antenna or is there a freeview/satellite/cable box connected?
I can then give you one answer specific to your problem rather than several possible answers and leave you to figure out what is and what isn't relevant.
I can't rule out a fault with the analogue tuner in your TV at the moment. The problem is almost definitely with the TV and not related to a poor signal. You've already done the logical test by connecting the TV to an aerial point where text transmissions are being received on another TV.
A couple more quick questions:
1. Do any of the other teletext related buttons have any effect?
The buttons in a horizontal line to the right of the teletext button are all for teletext functions. After pressing the TELETEXT button, do the 1'2 (split screen) REVEAL or HOLD buttons have any effect?
2. Have you tried running the automatic channel search again?
This can be done by opening the on-screen menu, the go to INSTALL > AUTO STORE. To open the on-screen menu pressing the MENU button on you Philips remote. Then use the directional arrow buttons (in a ring around the OK button) to navigate and the RIGHT ARROW and/or OK button to select options.
I would suggest running the channel scan again before doing anything else and ensure the correct LANGUAGE and COUNTRY options are selected as well. If you are not certain how to do this and need more specific instructions please let me know.
While you are in the on-screen menus, also go the LOCATION option (under INSTALL) and make sure the location is set to HOME and not SHOP. Some features of the TV are disabled in SHOP mode and it's possible you've switched to this mode accidentally.
I don't have anything else to suggest at the moment. If you can try all of the above and then get back to me, we'll go from there.
