headphones not working
I have a Marshall MG50 DFX amp.
When I plug the jack and headphones into the line out/headphones socket it has no effect, the amp continues to play through the main speaker. Could you please let me know if there is anything I need to do to use the amp through headphones?

Contrary to what's posted above, the Marshall MG series does not pass the speaker power output through the headphone jack, and inserting the headphones into the jack does not disable the speaker. The headphone amp is a separate circuit and it's input is taken before the master volume. So Jan's post is exactly right. Turn off the master volume and turn up all the other gain/volumes as high as they will go. The other issue is that the headphone jack's output does not drive low efficiency headphones well, so you need some headphones similar to Sony's MDR-V700s to hear it well. Earbuds just don't cut it.
I had the same issue, I thought my headphone output wasn't working. It turns out it was but I couldn't hear any sound in my headphones because the Clean channel and the Drive channel volumes were turned up only a little and the Master volume was turned up high, thus the main speaker sound drowning the headphones sound.
FIX: Turn the Master volume right down. Adjust Clean channel and Drive channel volumes to your taste, et voila, you can hear your headphones!

Well, your problem isn't very descriptive to help troubleshoot online, but first question would be; are you using the correct size jack? The second would be have they worked before? If the answer is yes to both questions, then the problem might be the jack itself on your amp. There is a prong inside the headphone line that hugs the plug to your phones. If the prong has loosened enough where the connection is poor or not at all, you will not get any sound. If the headphone jack has NEVER worked before, than it sound like a wiring issue on your board somewhere. If you are not familiar with a soldering gun, then I would take your amp in to get it fixed. should be a minor quick fix costing anywhere between $15-$30 to have a shop do it. Hope this helps. (also try different headphones if you haven't already. Could be a bad pair)
The speaker signal passes through the jack and is interrupted when you plug headphones in. Some possibilities are:
The jack contacts are bent and not disconnecting.
Your headphone plug is not going in all the way and not interrupting the speaker circuit
The jack is wired wrong.
