Heater ignites runs good with top cover removed
I have a model R115 hot ignition kerosene heater. Originally the heater would ignite( good yellow flame) after 4 or 5 seconds it would shut down. According to the troubleshooting guide I replaced the ignition control assembly(circuit board) & photo cell, did'nt help at all. Since then I have replaced ignitor, set pump pressure @ 5.3, new fuel filter, new air & fuel lines, cleaned air filter, cleaned nozzle, checked for leaks at nozzle adaptor & pump housing. Nozzle sprays a good even pattern. Now heater will run indefinetly with top cover removed( would't run at all before except for the 4 or 5 seconds). I can now place the cover starting at the exhaust end & gently lower it to within about 2 inches at the pump end before the unit shuts down. I have watched the flame very close as I lower the cover & noticed it turns more blue than yellow. I have called & talked to two factory technicians neither one had any concrete suggestions for a remedy. I'm at witts end. Can you help before I junk this heater that looks like new? The heaters with sparkplugs were much more simplier & reliable. Oh yes new fresh kerosene too! Thanks, Larry

Check the air intake and the air filter, eventually replace the air filter.
If the heater runs normally with the top cover removed, that means that there is a problem with the air coming from air intake, check the air intake, and if the unit has a replaceable air filter, replace the air filter.
